IBM Watson Group announced a $1 billion deal last week to acquire Merge Healthcare Inc. Merge Healthcare sells systems that help doctors store and access medical images, an essential step to eventually applying artificial intelligence to medicine. Adobe Systems has updated its Flash media player to patch a vulnerability that hackers were exploiting after attack code leaked from the devastating Hacking Team breach. Adobe is creating a fix for a critical vulnerability after a team of hackers broke into the surveillance firm Hacking Team’s systems. The vulnerability affecting Flash Player allowed for hackers to hack into servers belonging to Hacking Team which was infiltrated this past weekend. The attack was sophisticated and is estimated to have taken only days or weeks to complete. Over 400 gigabytes of corporate data was stolen. Read more >>

The United States Defense Advance Research Project Agency (DARPA) has recently held a competition in order to further the development of self-healing cyber technologies. This competition has been dubbed the “Cyber Grand Challenge,” which aims to advance the technology of automated security systems which can combat against cyberattacks as immediately as they are launched. This competition includes a team comprised of Raytheon employees, who have successfully advanced to the final stages of the Cyber Grand Challenge. Read more >>
